Celebrating Our Activity Team

In honor of National Activities Professional's Week, Claymont Health is celebrating someone very special to our team, Debbie Hunt, APNCC! Debbie is a true staple to our Activities Department, and we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight her and showcase how awesome she is.

Thanks to Debbie and her team of activity professionals, our residents get the opportunity to make new friends, stay active and engage in much more than just Bingo. Our activity programs are resident-centered, meeting individualized needs, keeping residents constantly engaged, and, most importantly, helping to improve their overall quality of life.

Meet our Activity Director, who makes all the difference, Debbie Hunt, APNCC!


Debbie began her career in healthcare when she was just in high school as an Aide. She went on to work as an Aide for the next 42 years and has loved every minute of it! She eventually switched over to work in the Activity Department at Claymont about three years ago and does a fantastic job.

Overall, Debbie has worked in healthcare for 46 years, making a strong impact on those around her. We asked Debbie why she chose to work in healthcare, and she shared, "I wanted to help people. I sometimes had two jobs at a time but never left healthcare and never will. I believe that God opened the door to healthcare for me. This is where I belong." Our residents at Claymont agree and feel so lucky to have her!

As an activity professional, you are constantly encouraging residents to join in and participate in activities, and sometimes it takes longer than others to get them out and socialize. "One of my favorite parts about my job is when you can't get residents out to do things, so you keep trying, and they finally come out of their room. They end up enjoying it so much that they meet you at the door in the mornings every day to see what we are doing today. Making the residents happy is my ultimate goal."

Debbie is from Uhrichsville, Ohio, and grew up in Stillwater, Ohio. She enjoyed growing up out in the country. Some of her hobbies include golfing, bowling, baseball, and, most of all, hanging out with her four grandchildren. She also has two cats named moonshine and Luna; they are her babies. One day, Debbie would love to go back to Germany, where she lived for three years. She would also love to go to Hawaii with her wonderful husband, Darrell, or go to different golf courses around the world. When she's retired (if she ever does!), she would love to move to the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area.

Debbie goes above and beyond for our residents to make sure they are always having a good time. We are so happy she is part of our team. Thank you for all your wonderful contributions to the healthcare industry and Claymnt Health! Happy Activities Professional's Week!
